Free solar observing with Bath Astronomers

Free solar observing with Bath Astronomers

Saturday 27th May 2023 from 10:30am to 13:30pm

Sydney Gardens
Bathwick, Bath, Avon, BA2 4DB

Bring the entire family to watch billions of tonnes of superheated plasma explode off the “surface”. See arching prominences of magnetic chaos entrap the plasma before it crashes down in a rain of hydrogen gloop.

The Bath Astronomers will set up solar telescopes on the path through Sydney Gardens on Saturday, 27th May, from 10:30 am until 1:30 pm. Use https://w3w.co/jump.until.seated to find them. All are welcome, and there will be Sun posters for the new little Sun Scientists to take away.

Please note that this has already taken place on 27/05/2023

Event darkness

The Moon has a big impact on the visibility of celestial bodies in the night sky. Try to plan your stargazing when there is no bright Moon at night as this is when the skies will be at their darkest.

The below chart shows if and when the skies will be at their darkest during this event. Moonlight is shown in light yellow and the Sun's twilight in light blue. Midnight on the date shown is shown as a white line with sunset to the left and sunrise the next morning to the right. A black background with stars shows the best times for stargazing.
