This event is one of many regular public open evenings at the The Royal Observatory in Edinburgh which take place all year round. Find our more about the historic contributions the observatory has made with a team of astronomers who will help you find your way around the night sky. Included is a tour of the Victorian telescope dome and when the weather allows you’ll be able to look through the observatory telescopes. These events go ahead no matter the weather with alternative activities offered. Prior booking is essential.

Event darkness

The Moon has a big impact on the visibility of celestial bodies in the night sky. Try to plan your stargazing when there is no bright Moon at night as this is when the skies will be at their darkest.
