This cruise has been designed to immerse you in Morocco’s unique culture. Visit cultural landmarks, embrace the local way of life, and explore the rugged Atlas foothills. Take a Berber-style cooking class to savour Moroccan cuisine. Discover UNESCO-listed Tétouan with its Andalusian ties and Rabat, home to the iconic Hassan Tower.

In addition, you’ll be joined aboard by an experienced astronomer from Go Stargazing for guided night sky tours under light pollution-free skies as part of Fred. Olsen’s Sky at Sea signature experience.

Stargazing highlights for this cruise
  • Learn how our ancestors interpreted the sky with a laser-guided tour of the constellations.
  • We will be accompanied by our nearest celestial neighbour – the Moon. We will see how it changes shape (phase) from night to night – growing from a half Moon as we begin to a bright Full Moon in Morocco.
  • The winter sky is dominated by the star pattern known as Orion the Hunter – we will see, as we travel south, the stars of Orion will get higher in the sky, eventually being able to see some stars below it that are not visible from the UK’s skies.
  • At the same time, we should notice that the stars in the northern part of the sky, such as the well-known pattern of ‘the plough’, get lower – by observing the famous pole star, we can work out our latitude!
  • The ringed planet Saturn will be visible for the first part of the night, setting in the west later. Through binoculars, we may glimpse the famous rings.
  • The brighter planet Jupiter will be visible for most of the night. During the cruise, we may see some of its moons and their changing position with the planet through binoculars.
  • The beautifully bright planet Venus (the morning ‘star’) may be seen rising in the east before sunrise.
  • Shooting stars or meteors are always a possibility if the sky is clear!
