Dedham Vale & Stour Valley Forum & Dark Skies Observing

Thursday 14th September 2023 from 18:00pm to 20:00pm

Flatford Mill
Flatford, East Bergholt, Essex, CO7 6UL

The Dedham Vale and Stour Valley Forum is an annual event where anyone with an interest and passion for conserving and enhancing the Dedham Vale National Landscape and Stour Valley can come together to discuss a range of issues affecting the area.

Tickets are free and no prior booking is required, although a £5 donation is welcomed to cover costs from those attending.

There will be a “Star Walk” after the Forum which will end up in the observing field opposite the Granary. If it is clear and as there will be no Moon you may see Saturn, distant galaxies, constellations and the Milky Way.

Please note that this has already taken place on 14/09/2023

Event darkness

The Moon has a big impact on the visibility of celestial bodies in the night sky. Try to plan your stargazing when there is no bright Moon at night as this is when the skies will be at their darkest.

The below chart shows if and when the skies will be at their darkest during this event. Moonlight is shown in light yellow and the Sun's twilight in light blue. Midnight on the date shown is shown as a white line with sunset to the left and sunrise the next morning to the right. A black background with stars shows the best times for stargazing.
