Dark Sky Evening at Jamaica Inn

Saturday 19th August 2017 from 19:00pm to 22:30pm

Jamaica Inn - Bodmin Moor
Bolventor, Launceston, PL15 7TS

Join astronomers from Caradon Observatory for this dinner (optional) and stargazing evening at the famous Jamaica Inn. Help celebrate Bodmin Moor’s recent award of Dark Sky Park status by observing amazing deep sky objects and planets through large telescopes if the weather permits — Saturn will be readily visible and looks truly stunning! There will also be a talk covering a number of astronomical subjects including meteors and exoplanets… The event starts at 7.00pm for dinner or 8.30pm for free stargazing. Please contact the Jamaica Inn or Caradon Observatory for more information.

Event darkness

The Moon has a big impact on the visibility of celestial bodies in the night sky. Try to plan your stargazing when there is no bright Moon at night as this is when the skies will be at their darkest.

The below chart shows if and when the skies will be at their darkest during this event. Moonlight is shown in light yellow and the Sun's twilight in light blue. Midnight on the date shown is shown as a white line with sunset to the left and sunrise the next morning to the right. A black background with stars shows the best times for stargazing.
