Whinlatter Forest Park - Forestry Commission
Braithwaite, Keswick, Cumbria, CA12 5TW
Join Jo from JAG Outdoors for a night-time walk in the forest! We will cover up to 4 miles and hope for some crisp, clear skies and many stars to explore at various points along the route. If the stars don’t appear, we will still enjoy a beautiful experience walking through the forest and enjoying the peaceful trails, enhanced sounds, and the “dark” sky scenery.
If we are gifted with stars, an amateur astronomer, Jo, can help you find the prominent constellations and use star maps; you can work out more or enjoy a peaceful moment under the stars. Well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome (not appropriate for young puppies due to walk length).
Please come dressed for the weather, while we are hoping for clear skies that will mean cold temperatures! And the Cumbrian weather can also offer many other things. Boots or trail shoes are recommended.
This event is part of the Cumbria Dark Skies Festival – Autumn 2022.
Please note that this has already taken place on 04/11/2022
The below chart shows if and when the skies will be at their darkest during this event. Moonlight is shown in light yellow and the Sun's twilight in light blue. Midnight on the date shown is shown as a white line with sunset to the left and sunrise the next morning to the right. A black background with stars shows the best times for stargazing.
