Tan Hill Inn
Reeth, Richmond, DL11 6ED
Join astronomers from the team at Go Stargazing for an evening exploring the fabulous dark skies above the Tan Hill Inn. This event is timed to coincide with a new moon which means, as there will be no bright moon in the sky at night time, the skies will be at their very darkest and best.
See thousands of stars just with your naked eye and the Milky Way arching across the sky whilst exploring deep and distant objects using large telescopes including star clusters and nebulae — this time of year is particularly good for observing galaxies! If you have your own telescope please feel free to bring it along!
Should the weather not permit stargazing there will be an astronomical presentation and a “virtual” tour of the skies. Enjoy a meal and a drink in the pub beforehand and stay overnight to maximise your time in this fantastic dark sky location. (If the skies stay clear we’ll be stargazing all night!)
Tickets are available for the Friday 1st February 2019, Saturday 2nd February 2019 and also for the weekend (both nights). The Tan Hill Inn is offering discounted overnight accommodation and dinner packages — please contact the venue directly for all accommodation bookings (separate to event ticket purchases).
Please note that this event has already taken place on 01/02/2019
The below chart shows if and when the skies will be at their darkest during this event. Moonlight is shown in light yellow and the Sun's twilight in light blue. Midnight on the date shown is shown as a white line with sunset to the left and sunrise the next morning to the right. A black background with stars shows the best times for stargazing.
