Dark Skies Festival Night Walk – Lastingham
Saturday 17th February 2024 from 18:45pm to 21:45pm
Blacksmiths Arms - Lastingham
Anserdale Lane, Lastingham, North Yorkshire, YO62 6TN
Join the team from Large Outdoors for a special Dark Skies Festival night walk along footpaths and trails around the village of Lastingham in the North York Moors, a designated International Dark Sky Reserve.
Tonight, we’ll venture out onto the open moorland, paths, and trails around the village of Lastingham for an exceptional walk.
Leaving behind the street lights and cars, we enter an inky black world with only our head torches and the moon to light the way.
With so much of the distant landscape obscured by darkness, you might tune in to your other senses, listening out for the scurry of nocturnal critters and the call of territorial owls, the smell of the damp peatland, the brush of heather against your legs.
There’ll be plenty of opportunities to stop and admire the magnificent night sky on the route. Your guide will help you spot constellations and celestial bodies, making the most of a truly dark sky.
We’ll arrive back in Lastingham after a few hours of good walking, where you might like to join your fellow participants for a post-walk drink and chat about what you’ve seen at the local pub.
This event is part of the North York Moors Dark Skies Festival 2024.
