Dark Side of the Dome

Dark Side of the Dome

Tuesday 18th July 2023 from 20:00pm to 22:00pm

Lime Tree Observatory and Planetarium
Lime Tree Farm, Grewelthorpe, North Yorkshire, HG4 3DA

2023 is the 50th anniversary of the release of Pink Floyd’s iconic album “The Dark Side of The Moon”, and to mark this occasion, Lime Tree Planetarium has put together a show full of facts, figures, and astronomical animations loosely fitted to the lyrics and themes of the album.

The show will be played with the album as a soundtrack from start to finish. The evening will last around 2 hours in includes refreshments (alcoholic or otherwise), a short regular planetarium show, plus the Pink Floyd Film.

Please note that this is NOT the official Pink Floyd-sanctioned planetarium film for the anniversary. This has been created independently by Lime Tree Planetarium.

Although everyone is welcome, the content may not be suitable for under 8’s due to the loud music, occasional profanity, flashing lights and disorientating visuals in the show.

Tickets will be available from the Nidderdale AONB website from 09:00 BST on the 24th of June.

Event darkness

The Moon has a big impact on the visibility of celestial bodies in the night sky. Try to plan your stargazing when there is no bright Moon at night as this is when the skies will be at their darkest.

The below chart shows if and when the skies will be at their darkest during this event. Moonlight is shown in light yellow and the Sun's twilight in light blue. Midnight on the date shown is shown as a white line with sunset to the left and sunrise the next morning to the right. A black background with stars shows the best times for stargazing.
