Caves and Cosmos

Monday 2nd April 2018 from 19:30pm to 21:30pm

Kents Cavern Prehistoric Caves
91 Ilsham Road, Torquay, TQ1 2JF, South West

Join Rob from astronomy charity ‘Dartmoor Skies’ for an insightful, fun and interactive talk which will explore what previous inhabitants of Kent’s Cavern would and wouldn’t have seen when they gazed skyward. After the talk hot drinks will be provided and if the sky is clear there will be a guided tour of the night sky and a chance to see some wonders of the universe first hand through Dartmoor Skies’ brilliant telescopes. If the weather is bad then a guided cave tour will take place. Warm clothing and sensible footwear recommended.

Please note that this event has already taken place on 02/04/2018

Event darkness

The Moon has a big impact on the visibility of celestial bodies in the night sky. Try to plan your stargazing when there is no bright Moon at night as this is when the skies will be at their darkest.

The below chart shows if and when the skies will be at their darkest during this event. Moonlight is shown in light yellow and the Sun's twilight in light blue. Midnight on the date shown is shown as a white line with sunset to the left and sunrise the next morning to the right. A black background with stars shows the best times for stargazing.
