Burns Night Stargazing at Abriachan Forest

Burns Night Stargazing at Abriachan Forest

Saturday 25th January 2020 from 19:00pm to 21:00pm

Abriachan Forest Trust
Abriachan, Inverness, IV3 8LB

Come along to Abriachan forest for a light hearted Burns’ celebration with a stargazing twist. With clear skies and dark of the Moon conditions we’ll be out under the stars with guiding from astronomer Stephen Mackintosh while the Abriachan staff will provide some traditional Burns’ Supper fare (both vegetarian and the meaty mix options)and some Cotter’s Saturday night tales from forest ranger Clelland.

If skies are inclement Stephen will instead present an indoor talk on the planet Venus (now a bright evening star) and some astronomical and scientific highlights from the enlightment, which shone during the time of Rabbie Burns. Booking required.

Please note that this event has already taken place on 25/01/2020

Event darkness

The Moon has a big impact on the visibility of celestial bodies in the night sky. Try to plan your stargazing when there is no bright Moon at night as this is when the skies will be at their darkest.

The below chart shows if and when the skies will be at their darkest during this event. Moonlight is shown in light yellow and the Sun's twilight in light blue. Midnight on the date shown is shown as a white line with sunset to the left and sunrise the next morning to the right. A black background with stars shows the best times for stargazing.
