Frank’s astronomical journey began at the age of ten, after observing the total solar eclipse in June 1927.

From Preston, he went onto be assistant curator at Jeremiah Horrocks Observatory. In later life, Frank became a professional astronomer, moving to South Africa as Astronomer in Charge at Lamont-Hussey Observatory.
