Beginners' guide to the Stars at Mugdock

Beginners' guide to the Stars at Mugdock

Monday 23rd January 2023 from 19:00pm to 20:30pm

Mugdock Country Park
Craigallian Road, Milngavie, Lanarkshire, G62 8EL

Join astronomers from The Astronomical Society of Glasgow to explore our universe. On a clear night, you can see stars, galaxies, planets, meteors, satellites and more with your own eyes and through the Astronomical Society of Glasgow’s telescopes. If it’s cloudy, you will hear all about these wonders from our team of seasoned and friendly astronomers (OK, possibly eccentric too!) who will be on hand with tips on how to get the most out of your own eyes, binoculars and telescopes. No experience is necessary. Beginners are most welcome, as are people who wish to bring their telescopes and learn how to use them. And remember to wrap up warm!

Please note that this has already taken place on 23/01/2023

Event darkness

The Moon has a big impact on the visibility of celestial bodies in the night sky. Try to plan your stargazing when there is no bright Moon at night as this is when the skies will be at their darkest.

The below chart shows if and when the skies will be at their darkest during this event. Moonlight is shown in light yellow and the Sun's twilight in light blue. Midnight on the date shown is shown as a white line with sunset to the left and sunrise the next morning to the right. A black background with stars shows the best times for stargazing.
