Beginner's Guide to the Night Sky

Beginner's Guide to the Night Sky

Friday 29th October 2021 from 19:00pm to 20:00pm

Online event by Go Stargazing

Enjoy a whirlwind tour of the skies with an astronomer from Go Stargazing in this online presentation as part of the National Parks Dark Skies Fringe Festival 2021.

Learn how to find your way around the nighttime sky, including identifying constellations and their brightest stars. First, we'll cover some elementary topics, including what stars are, how they shine so brightly and why they are different colours. Then we'll head on into deep space showing the location of nebulae and galaxies you can see with the naked eye, binoculars and small telescopes.

All of this will gear you up ready for a stargazing trip to the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors, which were awarded Dark Sky Reserve status by the International Dark-Sky Association in 2019!

The event takes the form of a Zoom meeting where you can interact with the astronomer asking any questions you may have. A small fee is applicable to help us cover costs. We will send invitations to the Zoom meeting at 17:00 on the day of the event.

This event takes place as part of the National Parks Dark Skies Fringe Festival 2021.
