An introduction to astrophotography with a DSLR
This talk looks at imaging the night sky with just a DSLR and tripod and then goes on to look at imaging with portable RA trackers. It looks at targets such as star trails, the Moon, widefield Milky Way, star fields and finishes very briefly with deep space.
It assumed that participants know the basics of how to use a camera and understand exposure length, ISO and aperture. The 2 hours is packed with information: there is a little bit of theory but nothing complicated; we look at practical aspects such as focussing and in-camera settings, equipment and planning are considered and there are demonstrations of freely available astrophotography-specific software.
This is not a course on how to use Photoshop or Affinity but there are occasional references to these packages.
There will be a couple of examples of portable trackers set up so you can have a look at them.
The talk is informal and restricted to only 10 places so participants have plenty of opportunity to ask questions.
Refreshments will be available.
