I’ve been into astronomy for close on twenty years now. I started out with a secondhand refractor on a wobbly wooden mount, gave up for a while then tried again with a 5-inch reflector on an EQ2 mount. I now own a Skywatcher 250PX 10-inch reflector (on a Dobsonian mount), and a couple of pairs of binoculars. I’m mainly visual, but occasionally take the odd smartphone and DSLR shots.
I live in the village of Piddletrenthide in West Dorset, where I mainly observe the Bortle 4 sky from my back garden. Pre Covid I regularly held public stargazing sessions in Cerne Abbas and at Maiden Castle, near Dorchester, helped several local Cubs and Scouts groups get their Astronomy badges, gave talks on stargazing in general, wrote several articles for the online Dorset-Eye magazine, wrote a bi-monthly stargazing piece for the village magazine, and currently write a regular piece for The West Dorset Magazine.
I've written four books on astronomy/stargazing, and am currently working on my fifth. Details on my Amazon Author page: https://amazon.com/author/kevquinn
